    School of Traffic Engineering

    The School of Traffic Engineering was founded in 1995, and its predecessor was the Department of Traffic Engineering, College of Civil Engineering, Shandong University of Construction, and the School of Traffic Engineering was established in April 2012. The College consists of three departments, namely, Road and Rail Engineering Department, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering Department, transportation and Logistics Engineering Department, and Road and Traffic Engineering Laboratory. In 2010, the road and traffic engineering laboratory was jointly built by schools and enterprises with a capital injection of more than 10 million yuan. Based on the laboratory, the college has successively been awarded 5 provincial-level and above teaching and research platforms such as the national experimental teaching demonstration center of civil engineering, the key laboratory of Shandong Province university of road and traffic engineering, the high-performance green road materials engineering technology research center of Shandong Province, Shandong Province road engineering green construction and performance improvement engineering laboratory, Shandong Province smart city collaborative innovation center. The college also has two provincial-level postgraduate education and teaching platforms, such as Shandong Province industry-education integration postgraduate joint cultivation base and Shandong Province research education joint cultivation base, etc. The above-mentioned national and provincial platforms have laid a good foundation for the development of the major and the discipline.

    The College currently has three undergraduate majors: Road, Bridge and River crossing engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation. Among them, the major of road, bridge and river crossing engineering is the national first-class undergraduate major construction point, the major of traffic engineering and road, bridge and river crossing engineering are both high-level application-oriented project construction majors in Shandong Province, and the major of traffic engineering is also the specialty of Shandong Province famous school construction project. The college has first-level master's programs in transportation engineering (including three second-level master's degrees in road and railway engineering, transportation planning and management, and transportation information engineering and control) and a second-level master's degree in bridge and tunnel engineering, and has the right to grant master's degrees in the field of transportation engineering and civil and hydraulic engineering (bridge direction).

    There are 56 faculty members, including 6 professors, 18 associate professors, 35 supervisors of doctoral and master's degree, 6 high-level talents such as experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council and famous teachers of Shandong Province, and the doctoral rate of teachers reaches 89% (the first in the whole university). The fourth batch of high-end expert project of the National Bureau of Foreign Affairs was successfully approved, and Professor Chazallon of the French National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA), an internationally renowned expert in road engineering, was hired as a high-end expert, which became the first national high-end expert project approved by the university, and was selected as one of the ‘Foreign Specialists Double Hundred Plan’ in Shandong Province in 2017.

    In the past five years, the college has published more than 200 papers, including more than 80 SCI and EI indexed papers, edited 7 national industry and local standards, published more than 10 textbooks, undertaken 8 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 16 provincial and ministerial level research projects, more than 40 departmental and horizontal research projects, with a total research funding of more than 20 million yuan. He has won one first-class prize, three second-class prizes and three third-class prizes of scientific and technological awards at provincial and ministerial levels, and four scientific and technological awards at departmental and bureau levels. Significant results have been achieved in basic theoretical research such as the waste rubber-plastic alloy stabilized modified asphalt modification mechanism, the identification of matrix asphalt aging gene and aging mechanism based on histology technology, micro-nano view cross-scale interface enhancement of SBS/CNTs composite modified asphalt structure-rheology coupling mechanism, the joint reinforcement mechanism of geotechnical pre-stress anchor and anti-slip pile, tensile geotechnical pre-stress anchor interface bond degradation under cyclic loading, water-rich composite strata progressive destabilization damage mechanism of shield tunnel excavation surface, damage mechanism and seismic control of curved girder bridge under strong earthquake, reliability of bridge structure ship collision, elastic-plastic buckling damage mechanism of rectangular tube flange curved composite girder, explosive travel characteristics mining and prediction of mobile population driven by multi-source urban spatio-temporal data, dynamic traffic distribution problem under the influence of non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, coupling laws between interchange hubs and urban territorial space. A number of innovative achievements have been made in the field of engineering application technology such as application technology of stabilized rubber modified asphalt and asphalt mixture, application technology of high modulus asphalt mixture, R&D and application of warm mix materials and complete set of technology of asphalt mixture, new type of large steel bridge deck pavement technology, R&D technology of low rolling resistance asphalt pavement, R&D technology of colored asphalt pavement, lake phase soft soil foundation treatment technology, ballast-less track foundation settlement control technology, inland river bridge ship collision prevention technology, key technology of intercity transportation hub-centered urban interchange network planning, and Jinan city bus command system development. The scientific and technological achievements have been promoted and applied in nearly 100 projects in 16 provinces nationwide, with direct economic benefits of more than 1 billion yuan.

    The teaching quality of teachers and the rating of students' evaluation of teaching are among the top in the university. ‘The Teaching Reform and Practice of Traffic Engineering Major under the Model of School-Enterprise Cooperation in Local Colleges and Universities’ won the First Prize of Teaching Achievement of Shandong Province in 2017. There are 2 provincial-level postgraduate quality courses and 1 provincial-level professional degree postgraduate teaching case library project. ‘Road Engineering Materials’, ‘Road Survey and Design’, ‘Bridge Engineering’, ‘Road Base Pavement Engineering’ and ‘Traffic Planning’ are university-level quality courses.

    At present, there are more than 1200 students in the college, including more than 150 postgraduates. Student education has established five development platforms of practical competition, employment and alumni, classical reading, traditional culture and behavioral habit formation, forming a service system of growth-achievement. The college hosted the first Shandong Provincial Transportation Science and Technology Competition in 2017, and students won more than 100 awards in national and provincial level science and technology competitions. The graduates are widely recognized by the society, and the employment rate and employment quality rank among the top of similar majors in the province.
