APC - All Peoples Congress
The All People's Congress party governed Sierra Leone from 1968 to 1992. From 1978 onwards it was the sole legal party in the country. Former presidents Siaka Stevens and Joseph Saidu Momoh were members of the APC. At the last elections, 14 May 2002, the party won 19.8 % of popular votes and 22 out of 112 seats. Its candidate at the presidential elections, Ernest Bai Koroma won 22.3% of the vote.
Ernest Koroma is also the party’s current leader and candidate at the 2007 presidential elections.

CPP - Convention People's Party
The current leader of the party is Andrew Turay, and is the party’s candidate at the 2007 presidential elections.
NDA - National Democratic Alliance
The current leader of the party is Alhaji Amadu Jalloh, and is the party’s candidate in the 2007 presidential elections.
PLP - Peace and Liberation Party
The Peace and Liberation Party was formed by followers of Johnny Paul Koroma, who ruled as military dictator from 1997 to 1998 after deposing the elected government of Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. At the last elections, 14 May 2002, the party won 3.6 % of popular votes and 2 out of 112 seats. Its candidate at the presidential elections, Johnny Paul Koroma won 3.0 % of the vote.
Today the party is led by Kandeh Baba Conteh and is the party’s candidate at the 2007 presidential elections.
PMDC - People's Movement for Democratic Change
The People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) is a newly formed political party, which was officially registered on 19 January 2006. The party is led by Charles Margai, a former member of the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). Charles Margai is also the 2007 presidential candidate for PMDC.
SLPP - Sierra Leone People's Party
The Sierra Leone People's Party is the ruling political party in Sierra Leone. It was established in April 1951 through the merger of the Peoples Party (PP), the Protectorate Education Progressive Union (PEPU) and the Sierra Leone Organisation Society (SOS). 1951-1961 it held majority in the colonial Legislative Council. In 1996, the party’s candidate Ahmad Tejan Kabbah won the presidential elections, receiving 60% of the popular vote in the runoff elections. At the last elections, May 14, 2002, the party won 69.9 % of popular votes and 83 out of 112 seats in the House of Representatives. Its candidate at the presidential elections, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah won 70.1 % of the vote and was re-elected.
Today, the party is led by the Vice President Solomon Berewa, who is also the party’s candidate at the 2007 presidential elections.
UNPP - United National Peoples Party
In 1996, the UNPP received 21.6% of the parliamentary votes for 17 of the 68 seats. Karefa-Smart finished second to current president Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in the 1st and 2nd rounds of voting, receiving 22.62% and 40.5% respectively. At the last elections, 14 May 2002, the party won 1.3 % of popular votes and no seats. Its candidate at the presidential elections, John Karefa-Smart won 1.0 % of the vote.
The current leader of the party is Professor Abdul Kady Karim and is the party’s candidate at the 2007 presidential elections.
